One of the biggest challenges facing small businesses today isn’t making the sale. It’s getting paid.

Late payments can disrupt cash flow, delay payroll, postpone purchases, and make it difficult to plan for growth. That’s why Intuit’s newest partnership with Affirm is worth paying attention to.

QuickBooks is introducing Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) through Affirm as a payment option for eligible QuickBooks Online invoices. The new feature allows your customers to finance their purchases over time while your business receives payment upfront, much like other electronic payment methods already available through QuickBooks.

For many businesses, this could become another useful tool for improving cash flow without changing the way invoices are created or sent.

How Affirm Works with QuickBooks

When the feature becomes available for your QuickBooks account, eligible customers will see an Affirm payment option directly on your invoices.

If your customer chooses Affirm and qualifies for financing, they can spread their payments over time while Affirm pays your business according to the normal QuickBooks Payments schedule. Rather than waiting weeks or months for installment payments from your customer, your business receives the funds much sooner.

Perhaps even more importantly, Affirm manages the customer repayment process. They handle payment collection and customer billing after the transaction is complete, reducing the amount of time your staff spends chasing unpaid invoices.

Better Cash Flow Without Changing Your Process

Many business owners hesitate to offer financing because they assume it requires complicated applications, contracts, or additional bookkeeping.

That’s not the case here.

According to Intuit, Affirm will simply appear as another payment option on eligible QuickBooks invoices. There is no separate financing program for your business to administer, and payment processing works alongside the existing QuickBooks Payments system.

For businesses that routinely invoice for larger projects, equipment, professional services, or annual contracts, giving customers additional payment flexibility could help remove purchasing hesitation while allowing the business to receive payment sooner.

A Better Experience for Your Customers

Today’s consumers and business buyers have become comfortable with flexible payment options.

Rather than requiring one large payment, qualified customers may choose to pay over time through Affirm’s financing options. According to Intuit, Affirm does not charge late fees or hidden fees, giving customers a transparent financing experience.

When customers have additional payment flexibility, businesses often see improved conversion rates and fewer delayed purchasing decisions.

What Does This Cost?

Intuit has stated that merchants will continue paying the standard QuickBooks Payments processing rates.

For many businesses, the benefits of improved cash flow and reduced collection efforts may outweigh the cost of traditional payment processing.

Every business is different, however, and it’s important to evaluate whether offering Buy Now, Pay Later aligns with your customer base and pricing strategy.

Will This Be Added Automatically?

Intuit plans to enable Affirm on a rolling basis beginning in the coming months for eligible QuickBooks customers.

Businesses that become eligible will receive notification from Intuit when the feature has been activated.

If you prefer not to offer Affirm financing, Intuit has provided an opt-out process. Future versions of QuickBooks are expected to include a setting that allows businesses to manage this option directly within QuickBooks Payments.

Should Your Business Use Buy Now, Pay Later?

Like many new financial tools, the answer depends on your business.

Companies with higher-value invoices, seasonal cash flow challenges, or customers who frequently request payment terms may find this feature especially valuable. Others may prefer to continue using traditional payment methods.
